Your future. (A choose your own adventure by Alma the High Priest) :D

Hey everyone! Here's the update for this week:

First week in the office we had 3 zone conferences. Tender mercy there was on the drive over to Ahuachapán for the final conference, we happened to drive by my old area Casa Blanca, and we happened to drive by right where Daniela works so I got to wave hi over at her the day before she got married with Samuel. And then they got BAPTIZED SUNDAY YEEEAHHHHH

Theres also a tropical storm hitting the country right now thats gonna make it keep raining hard for the next week. So the El Salvador president called off school for the week, and the area presidency asked us to try not and go outside for the next couple days. Today we got to send some busses over to bring one of the zones to a different city because they lost power and water in one part of the mission. If I learned anything from American quarantine we should probably head out and buy all the toilet paper in the town.

Someone I gotta introduce you to is a man named Lazaró. (Lazarus in english) Lazaró is a big muscular mechanic and tree trunk of a man. He likes to talk a lot and he likes to give big hugs. His daughter Kelly just joined the church 2 months ago and he's been coming to church and being taught for a while now, but he was kinda like meh i'll take my time deciding to follow God all the way and being baptised because being righteous is hard. Something we did to help him see the eternal perspective was by reading Alma 5with him.

SO I thought I'd just read some of it with you guys real quick right here. Just imagine we're sittin in the same room and we're taking turns reading the verses together here.
Some context, the majority of this chapter is Alma simply presenting you a view of an important future day in your life. He asks you to see the day when your "mortal body (will be) raised in immortality, and this corruption raised in incorruption, to stand before God to be judged according to the deeds which have been done in the mortal body"
Now that you're imagining this day that you will return to your Heavenly Father's presence and present to him what you have done and who you have become, Alma then gives us some important questions to consider:
  • "Can you imagine to yourselves that ye hear the voice of the Lord, saying unto you, in that day: Come unto me ye blessed, for behold, your works have been the works of righteousness upon the face of the earth?
  • Or do ye imagine to yourselves that ye can lie unto the Lord in that day, and say—Lord, our works have been righteous works upon the face of the earth—and that he will save you?"
  • "Or otherwise, can ye imagine yourselves brought before the tribunal of God with your souls filled with guilt and remorse, having a remembrance of all your guilt, yea, a perfect remembrance of all your wickedness, yea, a remembrance that ye have set at defiance the commandments of God?
  • I say unto you, can ye look up to God at that day with a pure heart and clean hands? I say unto you, can you look up, having the image of God engraven upon your countenances?
  • I say unto you, can ye think of being saved when you have yielded yourselves to become subjects to the devil?
I say unto you, ye will know at that day that ye cannot be saved;¨

At this point in the tour of your eternal destiny Alma probably has you scared your pants off because you are a human being who messes up sometimes and isn't perfectly clean. But don't worry, God knew about that and prepared a Savior, watch this part:

"for there can no man be saved... EXCEPT his garments are washed white; yea, his garments must be purified until they are cleansed from all stain, through the blood of him of whom it has been spoken by our fathers, who should come to redeem his people from their sins."

Wow. Thats right we have a Redeemer. You think that He would be there to help you specifically?

"Behold, he sendeth an invitation unto all men, for the arms of mercy are extended towards them, and he saith: Repent, and I will receive you.
Yea, he saith: Come unto me and ye shall partake of the fruit of the tree of life; yea, ye shall eat and drink of the bread and the waters of life freely;"

I hope you liked that. You can go read the rest of the chapter too if you want.
So anyways we read that with Lazaró and decided: let's just live the best life, follow God's commandments, have joy, and get to be clean in God's presence someday to go have eternal life with your family.
He decided to accept the date to be baptised this saturday. Just one problem, He also had a date to be taken across the border to the USA.
Well the week went on and he didn't get to the USA so he was humbled and was baptised on Saturday WOO HOOO
He is an amazing man who reflects Christ's light and it was awesome to see him take that decision. He now knows of a surety where he is going. He knows the name by which he is called. And he does live after the manner of happiness. What a man.
